You promised you wouldn’t leave,
You said you’d always be there,
A constant in my shifting world.
But I guess you moved on,
Your faded into the night,
You broke your promise,
Leaving me in the silence we used to share.
Why did you leave, where did you go?
Did you lose interest in my struggle?
Did you find someone else to care about,
As you left me here to rot?
Your pictures in my house remained,
A touch, or rather a trace of care,
Even as it burned down to the ground,
Your presence lingered everywhere.
The flames consumed our yesterdays,
Turning life to ash,
Yet in the wreckage and the trash,
Lay remnants of my trust.
And in the fire where I now lay
Each ember whispered your name,
Into the smoky sky
Reminding me of what once was,
As I go to die.
